CGI Web Services is run by Chris, who designs and builds the websites and systems on the Work page. From the first conversation to launch, and after it, you deal directly with the person doing the work, not a sales team handing you over to a project manager, then a development team.

Why this exists

Many businesses, both on and off the Island, face a similar choice: templated websites that can look impressive but show little evidence of what was actually built, or complex, highly specified solutions that cost far more than the business really needs.

CGI Web Services takes a more straightforward approach: build what the business actually needs, keep pricing transparent, and deliver work you can see for yourself. The aim isn't to sell the biggest or most complicated solution, it's to build something that does the job properly, represents your business well, and can develop as your needs change.

Experience that goes beyond web design

He has worked in IT for over 30 years, since graduating with a degree in Computing (Networks and Communications) in 2001. Most of that time was spent running managed IT services for professional services firms and international banking and gaming companies, including HSBC and PokerStars, environments where systems have to work properly, stay dependable and stand up to real scrutiny. He has also owned and run several IT companies on the Isle of Man, most recently Omnitec Ltd and Plan B.

That background brings a different perspective to web development. He has run businesses of his own, so he knows the pressures and practicalities involved, and looks past the website itself: a site isn't finished simply because it has gone live, and if something needs improving after launch, it gets looked at and, where appropriate, improved.

A local business, built on experience

He moved to the Island as a boy, left for university, and came home afterwards. He met his wife here and has raised his family on the Isle of Man ever since. He describes himself as a problem solver, obsessive about getting things done, and getting them done right, an approach that carries straight through into CGI Web Services: practical solutions, direct communication and a focus on delivering something that works.

Ready2Rent is the project he's proudest of: a genuinely new kind of commercial service for the Island, handling real payments and encrypted documents while keeping a person in every decision, to meet Isle of Man data protection law.

IoM Rentals, a free rental listing platform connecting Isle of Man landlords and renters; Stock & Sold, a commercial system built around the practical needs of a real business; Trade Quote Kit, a purpose-built quoting tool for trades and businesses; and findmytutor.im, our Island tutors directory.
